Laser Articulated Arms

laser articulating arm

flexible mechanisms for the delivery of laser energy

A  self supported flexible, optomechanical mechanism  for easy handling and  the precise delivery of laser energy at the point of use, with a large working area.

Transmission is wavelength dependant but typically greater than 90%

The arm is gravity balanced by a counter weight or spring mechanism, combined with quality precision bearing assemblies (5 to 7 joints), gives a precise and easy and lightweight (very low operating force)  360  degree movement without the need for external support.

An enclosed beam protects the user and allows use in contaminated environments.

Mounts provided for application specific handpieces.

Standard options and customisations for ;

  • Clear aperture (maximum beam path diameter), standard options of 16mm, 21mm and 30mm others on request
  • Lengths/sweep, 360 degrees, standard lengths of up to 2.5m
  • Wavelengths , CW or Pulsed (Q-Switched), UV to IR, Solid Sate and gas lasers eg CO2, Ruby, HeNe, Nd:YAG (+KTP), Er:YAG )
  • Mounting types and in optics lens options for relay, collimation and focussing.
  • In column options for Galvo- mirror scanning.
  • Colour and finish of your choice.

Articulating arms have a number of key advantages.

  • very low power losses
  • no effects of dispersion
  • no coherence length restrictions
  • no bend radius limitations.
  • very low operator forces for precise use as the mass is balanced.
  • easily designed for co-axial beams of differing wavelengths
  • no laser beam to fibre coupling reflected power losses
  • enclosed beam protects the operator
  • beam optics protected from environmental contamination
